In a world of franchise and a dearth of  conceptual thinking, it is incredibly refreshing to encounter a building like Nordwesthaus. A synthesis of architectural accomplishment from professionals and innovative desire from a client, has ensured that this building exploits the current technological limits of glass and concrete. Although a folly, I believe it is set to influence architecture from a material departure point for decades to come.

Baumschlager Eberle

After Munich, Istanbul and Vienna VAI shows a comprehensive work show of the architecture office Baumschlager Eberle from the years from 2002 to 2007. More than 300 constructions the office realised around Carlo Baumschlager and Dietmar Eberle since his foundation in 1985. To the large-scale projects from recent times count the airport enlargement Vienna, a hospital in the Belgian Kortrijk, high rises in Peking, the Geneva WHO/UNAIDS building and the university building e-Science Lab of the ETH in Zurich.

After the beginnings in Vorarlberg, with main focus House building, Baumschlager Eberle has set up quickly internationally. In seven office locations worldwide – Lochau, Vaduz, Vienna, Peking, St. Gallen, Zurich, Hong Kong – actively, Baumschlager Eberle can realize their motto “think global, act local”.

Carlo Baumschlager and Dietmar Eberle – go out with the draught from the town planning dimension of a building. They plan from „outside inwards“ and develop neutral of utilisation buildings which generate a lasting acceptance with changeability. The draught of the urbanity with and in the building flows in a cultural positioning of architecture: Vision and responsibility, metaphor and value in use, material justice and room finding cause a synthesis which is plumbed in the borders constantly.

The title of the exhibition „architecture people resources“ is for Baumschlager Eberle programm: “Architecture” gives an understanding of the new projects in photos, plans and models, “people” examines the use aspect and the social function of constructions, “resources” is dedicated to the questions to the lastingness of the architecture.
